U.S. History

I am probably a little biased, but I think that U.S. History is the most important class a child will ever take in school. By understanding our rich and sometimes disturbing past, students can come to realize and comprehend how we got to where we are today.

I try to mix up everything I do in my class. On average, we usually have 1-2 days of notes a week. Notes are just a part of history, and I don't think there is really anyway around it. Using technology seems to make notes a little less painful for everyone involved.

Our class is a modern U.S. History that begins with World War I and goes to the present day. Since we have an entire school year to cover only 85 years of material, it gives me the opportunity to really dive into some topics at a greater depth. I am thankful that I have the time and curriculum to spend as much time as I have on the topics I feel are most important.

Applied Social Studies

 Achieve 3000

Applied Social Studies is a class that is unique to Beloit Memorial.  The class was created because of gaps of knowledge that are exposed by the 10th grade state test.  To help fill these gaps, Applied Social Studies was created.  This is a 9 week course that focuses on the 5 major strands of Social Studies (History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, and Behavioral Studies).

This class offers the students at BMHS a quick look at rich variety social studies has to offer.  The class is fun to teach because the content changes so quickly.  Whether you hate or love one of the 5 strands, we only spend 2 weeks max studying it.  Variety is the spice of life, and that this class is definitely SPICEY.
